Historical Note Vol 2 of the History of the Connaught Rangers covering what became the 2nd Bttln (the old Scotch Brigade) cites an amazing account of a sea battle on 1st March 1799 when a company of over 100 of the brigade were posted on the British ship HMS Sybille a 48 gun frigate when it engaged a much larger French ship the 58 gun La Forte in the Bay of Bengal. The ships met broadside to broadside but the brigade kept up such a rapid rate of musket fire they virtually destroyed all the French gun crews. The prize crew boarding La Forte said afterwards the bulwarks looked "like a honeycomb" The French lost 150 killed and wounded, the British had only 16 killed and wounded.

There we have it gentlemen, we all know about the old ghosts of the 88th who are definitely with us, let's see if the ghosts of the old 2nd Battalion, the indominatable 94th "Scotch Brigade" reach out from the past and make our muskets spark like grinding wheels !
